József Komlóssy: Time Has Caught Up with Me
“…Today, in the twilight of my life, I can state with a clear conscience that in Canada, ‘Sopron’ is a concept in itself. The Sopron-trained forestry engineer is a brand. Nearly three times as many of us earned advanced degrees as did the native English-speaking students in our parallel cohorts. The introduction of practical silviculture in the European sense — and of classic forest management — to British Columbia and indeed across Canada is owed to the professors and students of the former Sopron college who found a new home in Canada in 1957. Canada’s ambassador to Hungary once remarked at a reception held at the embassy: ‘Never in the history of our country has any single immigrant group contributed as much to Canada as the people of Sopron!…’”
